Meet Sri Lanka's Gentle Giants
Sri Lanka is one of the best places on earth to see wild Asian elephants. In the dry months, the grasslands around Minneriya and Kaudulla draw large numbers of elephants to the receding tanks — one of Asia’s great wildlife spectacles. From the open side of a safari jeep, with a guide who reads the herd’s movements, you watch families graze, bathe and cross the plains at a close but respectful distance. Nature is wild, so we never guarantee specific sightings — but few places give you a better chance.
